Goodwill celebrates TWO successful events:

Our 2nd Annual Fundraiser which was held October 11, 2014 was a huge success.  Attended by over 100 people, everyone had fun trying to guess the monetary value of selected items ("Hidden Treasures") donated at our 7 retail stores.  There were vintage train sets, silver cups, vintage golf clubs, a camera and lots more!  Guests were also invited to win one of several donated items from gift baskets to Cavs tickets.  It was a wonderful evening and we look forward to next year's event.

Job Fair XIV - Big Hit!

This season's Job Fair was held off-site for the very first time.  On October 22nd, Goodwill Industries of Lorain County welcomed nearly 40 businesses and over 600 patrons to Midway Mall in Elyria, Ohio.  The south end of the mall was jam packed with people seeking employment opportunities.  The numbers are not all in yet, but so far over 400 people have gotten interviewed or have appointments for an interview AND OVER 60 HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN HIRED!.  Plans are already being made for our next Job Fair, our 15th, to be held in the Spring of 2015.

Welcome to the Goodwill

Goodwill Industries of Lorain County is a community-based organization that provides education, job training and employment services as well as job placement and post-employment support. We are located on the "north coast" of the U.S. on possibly the premier recreational natural resource of Ohio, Lake Erie. We serve all of Lorain County and the eastern parts of Huron and Erie Counties. Goodwill Industries of Lorain County consists of three main divisions that offer training, service, and education opportunities. They also provide the means to fund our mission.

This past summer was an extremely active one.  Our Summer Youth Program more than doubled from the previous year.  This is a six week program where young people are referred to us by OOD (Opportunity for Ohioans with Disabilities) .  For two weeks, participants attend classes and learn about a wide variety of topics. The next 4 weeks are spent with a Job Coach in a working environment.  The candidates are all working for a paycheck, sometimes their first ever paycheck!  Job sites included production, maintenance, secretarial and food service.  Upon completion of the program, participants get to enjoy a picnic with their family and guests.  At the picnic they receive certificats and a gift.  This is a wonderful program for both the kids and their coaches.

We have been trying to inform our community of all the services we provide besides our retail stores.  We also wanted to let them know where their donations and money for buying merchandise goes.  So we set up shop in Oberlin for their Family Fun Fair.  We passed out literature and talked to people about our programs and gave away stuffed animals and candy to all the children who stopped by our table.  We had a very good turn out...until the dark clouds gathered and thunder and lightning chased us away.

The Lorain County Fair was home to  several Goodwill employees from August 18-24.  Goodwill Industries of Lorain County, Inc. set up a table in Building 19 and we again worked at informing the public about our community outreach programs.  During that week, 100% of the thousands of people who visited our table were unaware of all the programs and services we offer to the Lorain County community.

These activities alone reached so many people in the community.  We believe the word is out there that Goodwill Industries of Lorain County, Inc. is more than their great retail stores.  We are an organization who truly cares about the community and is actively offering assistance to those in need.
